He holds a tall, ornate Trishul (trident) in his raised left hand, while his right hand is extended in the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness and blessing). Child Kartikeya, the god of war, sits comfortably on Shiva's left thigh, his right hand also raised in Abhaya Mudra, wearing simple divine ornaments.
