Arjuna, one of the five Pandava siblings, who are the hero of the Indian saga the Mahabharata. Arjuna, son of the god Indra, is renowned for his archery (he can shoot with either hand) and the magical weaponry he wins from the god Shiva. Before the final battle against a member of his family, his uncertainty became the opportunity for his friend and charioteer, the incarnate god Krishna, to present a dissertation on dharma or the right course of human activity. Those verses are collectively known as the Bhagavadgita. You can check the grace of his face in this Arjuna Statue.

Chitrangada was the dearest of the king’s children and was grown up as a “prince”. She was an ace archer and was a specialist in battle and all features of governance as well. Being strong and so great at maintaining the kingdom, she also favored dressing up as a prince and not as a princess.

Arjuna met her and was fascinated with her fighting skills, but mistook her to be a prince. Chitrangada caught one look at him and instantly fell for him. She later went to her father and demanded him to get this impressive ascetic wedded to her (Arjuna had changed himself as a monk at the time of his tirtha-yatra).

Once the king recognized Arjuna’s true personality, he was only too agreeable to make him his son-in-law. The latter, however, was not ready to wed his daughter. Denied so abruptly and clearly; Chitrangada went into deep pain. She, however, determined that she would retrieve from this and would not take “no” for a solution.

She tried the grace of Kamadeva (the God of Love), who converted her into the most attractive and graceful lady anyone had ever seen. She then went back to meet Arjuna, who could not hold her feminine graces this time. He, though, had no idea that this woman that he had befallen in love with was really Chitrangada. She was overjoyed at welcoming his love, but somewhere deep down, she was still uneasy, as she understood that Arjuna was not in love with her true self.

In the next few weeks, Manipur came under siege from intruders. The villagers overtook Arjuna with the news of the attack, also grieving that their princess, who was once known for her fearlessness, was suddenly nowhere to be seen. Arjuna was curious to know more about the woman, who he discovered, could equal his own valiance on the battleground. In this circumstance, Chitrangada had no other choice but to unveil her true self. A shocked Arjuna understood that he loved her, not just for her charm, but for the actual wholesome person that she actually was. He then graciously accepted to take her hand in marriage.
