  • Sale! meticulously carved, dark stone sculpture depicts the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu in his iconic cosmic slumber, known as Anantashayana, resting upon the multi-headed serpent Shesha. Lord Vishnu, centrally positioned, is shown reclining gracefully with his left arm bent, supporting his head. He possesses four arms, each holding one of his significant attributes: the Shankha (conch shell) in his lower left hand, the Chakra (discus) in his upper right, the Gada (mace) in his upper left, and a blossoming lotus stem emanating from his lower right hand, symbolizing creation. His serene and powerful countenance is framed by an elaborate, multi-tiered crown, and his body is adorned with richly detailed necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and a waist belt. His dhoti is intricately patterned with delicate, etched lines, showcasing traditional Indian craftsmanship. The colossal figure of Shesha-naga (or Ananta) forms both Vishnu's celestial bed, with its tightly coiled body providing a stable base, and a majestic canopy, as its numerous hooded heads fan out protectively behind Vishnu's head. Each serpent head is distinct, and the scales across Shesha's body are meticulously carved with fine, contrasting lines, creating a remarkable texture. Beside Vishnu, his divine consort, Goddess Lakshmi, is exquisitely carved, seated gracefully with a devoted expression. She gazes towards Vishnu, her hands in a respectful gesture, embodying loyalty and prosperity. Lakshmi is also adorned with a magnificent crown, intricate jewelry, and a flowing sari, all rendered with similar delicate etched patterns. Emerging from a lotus flower that blossoms from a stem originating from Vishnu's navel, Lord Brahma, the creator deity, is depicted seated. Though smaller in scale, his multi-headed form (with three heads visible from this perspective) is clearly discernible atop the lotus, signifying the cyclical nature of creation in Hindu cosmology. The entire sculpture is crafted from a dark, polished stone, possibly black granite or soapstone. The intricate details of the deities' clothing, ornaments, facial features, and the serpent's scales are brought to life through precise, light-colored linear etchings that contrast starkly against the dark background, giving the piece profound visual depth and highlighting the artistry.
