Vishnu is one of the major Hindu gods. Vishnu combines many lesser divine figures and local heroes, especially through his avatars, particularly Rama and Krishna. His ideas are countless; he is often said to have 10 avatars—but not always the same 10.

Vishnu is said to describe a part of himself anytime he is needed to fight evil and to protect dharma (moral and religious law). Not all avatars are specifically generous; some, such as Parashurama (Rama with the Ax) and Krishna, bring about the ends of many reliable people, and the Buddha corrupts the pious antigods. Vishnu’s vahana, his vehicle in the world, is the eagle Garuda; his heaven is called Vaikuntha.

Temple pictures of Narayan Statue represent him either sitting, often in the company of his friends Lakshmi (also called Shri) and Bhumidevi (Earth), or resting on the coils of the serpent Shesha—asleep on the cosmic ocean during the time between the periodic destruction and re-manifestation of the world.

He is also described in a standing posture and spread in glorious garments, holding in his four (sometimes two) hands the shankha (conch), chakra (discus), gada (club), or padma (lotus).

On his chest is the curl of hair known as the shrivatsa mark, and throughout his neck, he wears the auspicious jewel Kaustubha. In pictures, Vishnu Statue is normally presented as dark-complexioned, a distinctive characteristic also of some of his manifestations.

This sculpture is exquisitely carved in a single piece of sandstone. The intricate work done on it shows the immense commitment of the artisan towards creating this special piece. Minute carvings are done on the whole figure keeping in mind the proper adornments.

This Vishnu Statue is holding a flower as well as a conch shell, discus, and a large club. The conch represents “Om”, the first sound of creation and also the beginning of matter since sound and matter are considered to be synonymous. The discus is thought to represent the sun.

The discus is a vestige of his solar origins. Vishnu’s weapon, the club or Gada, represents the elemental force from which all physical and mental powers derive. Narayan Statue has a large necklace that hangs down to his knees. He has a slight smile on his face.

Lord Vishnu is the Hindu god of preservation and part of the Hindu holy Trimurti along with Shiva the Destroyer & Brahma the Creator.
